Hey everyone! I will keep this first post fairly short, but there will be much more to come soon as our newest chapter begins. Meet Zev Love, our 6-year-old, 100 pound American Bulldog.
We (Katie and John) enjoy a laid-back life by the beach with this big fella’, a real ham who loves butt scratches, food, walks on the beach, and his new antler chew. A few weeks ago, we decided that we wanted to adopt a second dog. Fast forward a few weeks: we have found our girl! Meet Lexi, a beautiful, 3-year-old American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix and the new addition to our family:
Lexi was surrendered to the RISPCA in July of 2012 and taken into Handsome Dan’s Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs. She has been living in an AMAZING foster home for about 7 months now and received incredible medical and social support through Handsome Dan’s Rescue and many, many other people. She has come a long way, and still has a long road ahead of her, but as of Friday, January 18, 2013 she will finally have a forever home.
Lexi’s foster mom has created a wonderful blog detailing many of Lexi’s struggles and triumphs (See Defining Lexi). Lexi’s many supporters and fans follow her blog religiously (us included!), offering support, praise, well wishes, and donations towards Lexi’s care. Through this blog, hundreds of people have been able to share in the joy of Lexi’s progress and provide encouragement during her struggles. I have decided to continue to document Lexi’s journey in my own way, so that her supporters may continue to watch her progress and enjoy life in her new home and with her new canine brother. I can’t promise that my blog with be as eloquent or humorous as I would like, but I do promise to share both our joys and our struggles with the people who have been rooting for Lexi all along. Without you all, our sweet girl might not be preparing for this transition into her new home, and we are forever grateful that her life was saved.
So, stay tuned for the big event – Lexi’s big move-in day this Friday. Preparations are under way in both our home and Lexi’s foster home, and we are all excitedly and anxiously awaiting her arrival and transition. As for Zev, well…
He is catching up on some sleep, per usual. One talent both dogs definitely share is napping. I foresee our couches being taken over by the dogs (more so than they already have been!) in little time at all. Lexi’s arrival will be a big adjustment for Zev as well but we are sure that with time, patience, and a lot of love, the four of us will make a wonderful little family.
