Bath Day, Followed By Cuddling

Hi everyone!  Today was bath day for Lexi, her first while with us.  She needs a weekly bath with medicated shampoo and today was the perfect day.  I packed up our laundry, Lexi, and some of her toys and treats and took a ride to my parents’ house, about half an hour away.  She was very excited when we first arrived – she had to check out every corner of the house and chew her antler with vigor.  She quickly discovered the couch and approved of it right away.  She was a very good girl for her bath, as expected, and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging around on the couch while I finished our laundry.

Meanwhile, John took Zev out for the day with his brother, Christian, to visit their mom in Hope Valley.  We thought it would be a good idea for each of the dogs to have a day out with one of us to (temporarily) be an only dog and receive lots of individual attention.  This worked wonderfully, because when Lexi and I returned home to Zev, something amazing happened.  Each dog was quietly curled up on a separate couch, Lexi sharing a couch with me.  I got up to begin putting laundry away, keeping a cautious eye on the pair, when Zev got up from his couch and took the now-empty spot next to Lexi.  They sniffed each other briefly and then Zev simply curled up in a ball to match Lex.  I really think he missed her today and wanted to spend some quiet time close to her!  They both napped for almost an hour together, and then Zev quickly returned to the other couch.  It might seem like a pretty insignificant happening, but this is one of our “firsts” and wonderful progress for two dogs still getting used to one another and the changing dynamic of our household.  This is especially awesome because it was completely initiated by Zev, who usually doesn’t want to be bothered by Lexi.  Progress continues slowly, but we are setting our dogs up to have a wonderful and safe relationship with each other, and that is what is most important to us.  Now, for the photographic evidence:
