An update!

First, here is another picture of the dogs at the beach a few weeks ago, happy as can be!

This picture cracks me up!

In other news, there has been a LOT going on lately!  I started my Spring semester today, we are moving in about three weeks from Waipahu to Waialua, and Lexi is battling yet another ear and paw infection (at the same time, no less).  Phew.  So we are breaking the lease on our apartment early and moving to a small house in Waialua, on the North Shore of Oahu about 20 minutes away from where we live now.  It’s small but in good condition and has a large screened-in porch that we plan to put a table, chairs, and our futon in to make a nice cool hang-out spot.  I know the dogs will love hanging out on the porch to get some air!  Also, the whole yard is fenced, which is awesome!  We do share the property with the owner, a nice older lady, but she has met both the dogs and really likes us (Us=John and I plus our good friend Shawn).

We will have some work to do with Lexi, though, because the neighbors on each side of the fence have multiple dogs that bark through said fence.  We have been working a lot on our leash walking and she has improved incredibly, but seeing other dogs through the fence is something she isn’t quite accustomed to dealing with calmly.  We will work on whatever we need to, though, and I think with a little time and consistent work she will come to really enjoy having a safe yard to run around in!  Perhaps the best part of this new place, though, is that it is across the street from a nice bike path that I’m sure Lexi and I will enjoy.  Also, it is a block away from the beach!  I kid you not, it will take us 2 minutes to walk to the beach access path.  We are really excited and can’t wait to take the dogs to the beach more and just be so close to it!

Anyway, Lexi is also battling a paw and ear infection at the same time.  She is on the mend and both should clear up in no time.  She is prone to developing both because of her weakened immune system, and it’s far from the first time we’ve seen these issues.  We found a vet about 5 minutes away that I really like and who really works with us to help reduce Lexi’s vet-related anxiety and stress, which seems to have gotten worse as she gets more and more attached to us.  All of the staff are great, though, and help make the experience as positive as possible…although a dose of ace is probably the best stress reliever for her in these situations!  Lexi goes back in another two weeks for a re-check to see if the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds are doing their jobs.  Otherwise all is well with both her and Zev.  On a positive note, she is back up to 64 pounds!  Remember when I struggled for months to put weight back on her?  Before our move I struggled to keep her around 60.  Now she looks SO good and filled out.  She eats a high quality dry food with an herbal allergy supplement, intermittent Benadryl, coconut oil, and sometimes some pumpkin too.  She is doing really well on this diet and I can finally maintain her weight.

Well, that’s it for now.  Gotta get ready for classes tomorrow!
